What is the 812 Competizione like?

Introducing the Ferrari 812 Competizione, a newly unveiled, exclusive model from the Italian marque. NOVITEC, the world’s leading tuner of Ferraris, has further refined the lightweight-construction car. Overall, it represents a heightened, more potent, and lighter iteration of Ferrari’s front-engined V12 berlinetta.

Production of the Ferrari 812 Competizione is strictly limited to 999 units for the hardtop variant and a mere 599 units for the targa-top version, all of which have been completely sold out. Pricing starts at €499,000 (about £430,000) for the hardtop model and €578,000 (nearly £500,000) for the targa-top variant.

Novitec’s History in Tuning Ferraris

In 2003, the inception of the contemporary NOVITEC marked the beginning of their journey into the realm of Ferrari tuning. Under the NOVITEC banner, these customised Ferrari models are designated as Novitec Rosso. The inaugural project involved enhancing the performance and aesthetics of the Ferrari 360 Modena.

One of the distinctive hallmarks introduced by Novitec Rosso during this venture was the incorporation of black taillights, to replace the original Ferrari taillights. Those were exclusively crafted for Novitec Rosso and have since become one of the most iconic and recognisable features in the realm of Ferrari customisation.

Performance and Exhaust Upgrades

The NOVITEC high-performance exhaust system, which also comes in gold plate, increases the power of the 6.5-litre V12 engine to an impressive 637kW/866 hp. The engine remains the familiar 6.5-liter unit found in the standard 812 Superfast, but it has undergone a meticulous refinement process, akin to triple distillation, to extract even greater performance.

Since the Superfast, the key enhancements include redesigned pistons, significantly lighter titanium connecting rods, and the application of a diamond-like carbon (DLC) coating to the piston pins. The crankshaft has been rebalanced and is now 3% lighter, while new cylinder heads have been introduced.

Cutting-edge Formula 1 technology has been integrated into the camshaft system, and both the intake manifold and plenum have been subjected to a comprehensive redesign. Variable geometry inlet tracts further optimise performance.

The three-slot exhaust pays homage to Ferrari’s historical designs, notably drawing inspiration from models like the F12tdf. However, their function is dual-fold: not only do they alleviate pressure within the wheel wells, but they also play a vital role in channelling air towards the formidable rear diffuser, positioned between the assertively sporty motorsport exhausts.

Styling Upgrades

The two-seater car offers custom NOVITEC hi-tech forged wheels made by the premium American manufacturer, Vossen. Opting for 21-inch wheels in the front and 22-inch wheels in the rear accentuates the car’s sleek wedge-shaped design even further. Here’s how NOVITEC has improved the Competizione in other areas…

Wheels

The NOVITEC sports springs have been precisely tuned to complement this substantial tire and wheel combination, enhancing agility by lowering the vehicle’s centre of gravity.

Furthermore, NOVITEC’s expertise extends to crafting bespoke interiors for all Ferrari models, customising them meticulously to meet the owner’s preferences regarding colour and design.

Suspension

Furthermore, a front lift system is incorporated, enabling the front axle of the vehicle to be raised by 40 millimetres with a simple button press. This feature makes it easier to traverse speed bumps and manoeuvre through car park ramps, preventing any undesired contact with the ground.
