Lamborghini vs Ferrari is a true clash of the automotive titans. These sought-after Italian supercars boast power and prestige, but offer different designs and driving experiences. Not to mention speed (and lots of it).

So, Prancing Horse or Raging Bull? Read on to find out how they compare…

Backstory

Ferrari and Lamborghini are synonymous with luxury, power and performance. But their journeys to the limelight slightly differ. Ferrari began in 1929 in Italy, founded by Enzo Ferrari after he left Alfa Romeo, who was already known for making fast race cars.

Meanwhile, Lamborghini was founded in 1963 by Ferruccio Lamborghini in Sant’Agata Bolognese near Modena, who’d made a lot of money building tractors and wanted to build a supercar even better than his own Ferrari.

What sets them apart?

When it comes to Lamborghini vs Ferrari, there are plenty of differences to pick out. First off, Lamborghinis are known for sharp, straight lines and the distinctive wedge-shaped look, while Ferraris have a gentler, sleeker style, with more rounded contours.

Inside, Ferraris have a light, streamlined structure with features focused on racing and nimbleness. On the flip side, Lamborghinis have a larger frame, and their interiors exude luxury and opulence.

Beyond appearances, Lamborghini car models are nearly all named after infamous bull fighting breeds (think Murcielago and Gallardo). In contrast, Ferrari emphasises the emotional connection between the driver and the car, as Enzo Ferrari once said, “My motors have a soul”.

Head-to-head

Let’s see who takes pole position in the Lamborghini vs Ferrari head-to-head…

Speed and acceleration

Lamborghini’s fastest car is the Veneno, reaching 221 mph thanks to its 5.6-litre aspirated V12 engine. But Ferrari’s FXX Evo can reach 249 mph in under 40 seconds thanks to its 6.3-litre V12 engine.

And acceleration? Ferrari often takes the lead, thanks to their turbocharged engines and higher torque output. For instance, their SF90 Stradale can go from 0 to 60 mph in a mere two seconds. Is a Ferrari faster than a Lamborghini? In this case, yes. Just.

Engines

Lamborghini offers a range of engines including V8, V10, and V12 options, with the most powerful V12 engine putting out an incredible 759 horsepower.

Ferrari’s current engine line up includes V8 and V12 options. The Ferrari 812 Superfast stands out with the most potent naturally aspirated engine ever, delivering an astonishing 800 horsepower and 529 lb-ft of torque.

Style and design

When it comes to looks, the Lamborghini vs Ferrari debate boils down to a choice between refined elegance and flashy extravagance.

Ferraris usually have graceful, flowing body designs with cleverly hidden aerodynamic elements, like the front diffusers and curved dams on the Ferrari 812 Superfast. In contrast, Lamborghinis lean towards bold, external aerodynamic elements with sharp edges, creating eye-catching designs.
