Driving your supercar near where you live is enjoyable, but what if there was a way to kick things up a notch? Imagine you, your supercar and the open road. Combine that with some stunning scenery, and you’re in for an unforgettable experience.
You’ve looked after your supercar all winter, and now it’s time to get back out on the road. You could take a spontaneous trip or start planning for something a bit more ambitious. Whichever you choose, we’ve got some suggestions for legendary road trips. We’ve matched some supercars to the routes and explored what makes these routes the best.
- Ireland – Wild Atlantic Way

To kick off your European road trip, you don’t have to go far. In fact, one of the most epic routes is along the coast of Ireland. You can easily take your car over on the ferry and then let rip. You get around 1,500 miles of cliffs, culture and natural beauty.
Ireland is known for its warm and welcoming hospitality, so be sure to stop at towns and villages on the way. The crashing waves of the Atlantic are the soundtrack to this trip. As you navigate this rugged landscape, take in some incredible sights. Don’t miss Erris Head Peninsula, Dingle Peninsula and the Cliffs of Moher.
- Romania – Transfagarasan Highway

If you’re taking inspiration from the guys from Top Gear, you’ll want to get your Ferrari, Aston Martin or Lamborghini in tip-top condition for this route. Even before we saw Jeremy, James and Richard tackle these bends, this road was legendary. Be warned, though, it’s not for the faint-hearted. You’ll want to know that your brakes are in working order before setting off.
It’s one of the best driving roads in Europe. It’s not the longest of our routes, at around 56 miles. However, those twists and turns are unforgettable. Expect hairpin bends, steep descents and views of the Fagaras mountains, Balea Lake and stunning valleys.
- Italy – The Amalfi Coast

One of the most iconic European road trips is the Amalfi Coast. Any road in Italy is sure to deliver thrills and scenery galore, but this one goes above and beyond. This winding coast road is on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Expect warm sunshine, cliffs, bays, vines, lemons and olive trees.
Positano and Amalfi are two charming places to stop along the way. In between them, you’ll experience the culture and nature of this beautiful country. We recommend matching the Italians in their stylish and effortless ease by driving this route in a Maserati GranTurismo or just about any Ferrari.
- Germany – The Romantic Road

Germany has its own picturesque route and it’s known as the Romantic Road. The flowers from the balconies and grand gardens will make you want to complete this trip with someone special. However, there’s enough history, culture and food along its 220 miles to occupy solo travellers.
Any supercar will deliver thrills as you go from Neuschwanstein Castle to the Wurzburg Residence, a UNESCO World Heritage site. We think that some German engineering is in order here, though. The Porsche Carrera GT springs to mind for a spectacular open-top drive. It’ll give you the best view of medieval towns and scenery straight from a fairytale.
- Croatia – Dalmatian Coast

One road trip that’s often overlooked is the Dalmatian Coast in Croatia. Less well-known means more open road for you. The Peljesac Bridge opened in July 2022, uniting the northern and southern parts of the country. It means you can drive from Dubrovnik to Split with ease, taking in the best of Croatia.
Crystal-clear waters, orange rooftops, oyster farms, wineries, lakes and rivers are all part of the adventure. It’s not just for food and wine lovers, though. There’s plenty of history with ancient palaces, Roman ruins and quaint medieval towns. If you’re lucky enough to get your hands on a modern super, this is the ideal place to try it out.
- Scotland – NC500

The North Coast 500 is Scotland’s ultimate road trip. It covers more than 500 miles, most of which is coastal scenery. We think that British luxury would make it a comfortable ride, so GT owners such as the Aston Martin DB11 or Ferrari Roma, this one’s for you.
One of the best things about this route is that you can tailor it to the kind of road trip you want. Continue the luxury with castles and five-star accommodation. Alternatively, make it more wild and rugged with camping and fishing villages. It’s up to you whether you want to focus on Scottish seafood, history or a visit to a distillery.
- Norway – Atlantic Road

So far, we’ve delivered some pretty picturesque options, but that word doesn’t do this route justice. The Atlantic Road is one of the best driving roads in Europe. It includes eight bridges and an experience that gets you as close to the sea as possible. It’s so breathtaking that you’ll want to plan regular stops to take it all in.
The route is only slightly over five miles long. If your supercar is only just getting warmed up, then you don’t have to stop there. You can continue exploring the fjords and get views of waterfalls, snowy mountains and otherworldly landscapes.
- Iceland – Ring Road

Anyone looking for a longer drive should put Iceland at the top of their list of European road trips. Around every bend is a unique landscape. Known as Route Number One, you should give yourself at least seven days to cover the 820 miles. Even though the landscape is rugged, a 4×4 isn’t necessary.
This drive delivers mountains, fjords, glaciers and active volcanoes. There’s a reason that Iceland’s called the land of fire and ice. Among those natural phenomena, you’ll want to make stops at the impressive lagoons and beaches. If you’re lucky, this road trip will also include a glimpse of the Northern Lights.
- Portugal and Spain – Algarve to Andalusia

If beaches are a top priority for your Europe road trip, then consider starting in Portugal. Lisbon is an ideal starting point for seeing the Algarve. You can visit some beautiful beaches and historic towns and cities on low-traffic roads. Passing through Albufeira and Faro, you’ll soon be in Spain.
There are many stunning sights to explore in Andalusia. The culture and architecture are a must. The heights of Ronda, a mountaintop city, will give you an unforgettable driving experience. After that, don’t miss a visit to Granada for the Alhambra.
- France and Spain – Barcelona to French Riviera

Andalusia isn’t the only part of Spain that’s worthy of a road trip. Enjoy the hustle and bustle of Barcelona before heading up to the French Riviera. You’ll want to turn heads as you arrive at the Cote D’Azur. Time to tune up your Bugatti Veyron for European style and speed.
Make it a leisurely drive from Marseille to Nice, or even make it to Monaco for some extra glamour. Take in the beauty, beaches, food and culture with stops in Aix-en-Provence, Saint-Tropez, Cannes and Antibes. You’ll see views that have inspired famous artists and enjoy more than just a taste of the good life.
