Reviving a name previously given to a grand tourer it had produced between 1967 and 1972, Aston Martin introduced the DBS Superleggera as its new flagship in 2008. It had an auspicious debut, as James Bond’s car in the film Quantum of Solace, which saw it chased around Italy’s Lake Garda! Carrying over Gaydon’s successful rear-wheel drive format, the power comes from a 5.9-litre V12 engine, as used in the marque’s DBR9 racing cars, and built at Aston’s dedicated engine plant in Cologne. Initially offered with a six-speed manual transmission, an auto version was later introduced. Between 2008 and 2012, 3,400 DBS Superleggeras were sold, including several limited-edition specials, while a convertible model, known as the DBS Volante, was offered from 2009.
